Korean Delight At Daorae

If you googled or yahooed, there's definitely plenty of other bloggers who had been writing on this little restaurant that is called Daorae. This Korean restaurant has been in Malaysia for quite a while now and if I am not mistaken, the first shop was actually opened in Kuala Lumpur's Desa Sri Hartamas. Now, I didn't have to go all the way to KL to have a taste of this korean delight.

My dad has been a HUGE fan of Korean food. Not only that, he fancies Korean songs, Korean movies and series, Korean products, Korean politics, heck... he even have a very good Korean friend by the name of Mr Roh. We've tried a few other Korean restaurants around the island and we've seen a fair share of Korean shops opened and closed too. I was wondering... "We are looking at it shines right now, but when will its glory days end?" Many restaurants come and go especially foreign ones, so this question will linger on for another decade or so... maybe less.

Anyway, Daorae opens its second store here in Penang (the first one is located at Bayan Point) and it's located 104&104A Jalan Tanjung Tokong, 10470 Tanjung Tokong, Penang. Please make sure you make table reservations before going to that place (+604-8913616). And also, do bare in mind that parking is extremely limited so do make sure to get there earlier than the crowds during dinner hours of the weekend.

This place really amazes me, as you step into the restaurant where you will be whisked off to Korea itself with the decoration is rather true to its Korean style.

Little Marcus is rather hyped up for the meal.

My dear hard at work with the menu.

A look into what is inside the menu itself.

The service in the restaurant is extremely top notch. The employees are super responsive, the master chef lingers around the dining area to greet its guests and of course... the car park attendants are helpful that they will help you to move your car if you closed down someone's car (did I mention that car park is limited earlier?)

The place is super clean with its skewer top notch clean and even its kitchen suction that looks like a vacuum cleaner looks rather clean!

Traditionally Korean style, you shall be served with a variety of Korean side dishes as starters. Kim Chee anyone?

We also got a good serving of hot steamy seaweed soup too. Now being familiar with the Korean dishes, dad knows what he wants for dinner and the orders came quickly too.

First up, the Korean seafood pancake.

Kimchee seafood soup.

Bim Bim Bap Rice... or known as Korean style rice on a Hot Bowl.

Honestly, I don't really remember what is this called but what the heck... it's a pot of Fish Head soup mixed with a generous portion of needle mushrooms.

Steamed egg Korean style.

And of course, it wouldn't really call Korean if you don't go for Barbeque... right?

Skewering these succulent pork.

When it's done... it looks extremely YUMMY!

You can have those BBQ pork on its own as it's properly marinated or you can eat it with a serving of lettuce.

...and of course you got to dip the meat into this sauce (it's definitely not our local Sambal ok?) before wrapping it up with the lettuce.

I don't think you would want to look at the bill after the free fall order that dad made for the night. For me, I guess it's worth coming back for a second visit, but not anytime within this year itself. I'm giving this place a rating 8 out of 10. Really worth the visit for a Korean style meal that it might take you sometime to forget especially after having those succulent BBQ pork.
