A Crushing Win For The Kops

How does one spend his Medical Leave afternoon's at home while being sick? Watch football of course. Champions League matches that I missed out last night. My favourite team (Liverpool) was playing eventually. And here's the score...

Everyone played exceptionally well, credits to Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres, Javier Mascherano for their tremendous ball play skills and Pepe Reina for his saves when Real Madrid threatens in front of the goal. Liverpool, who had won by a slender one goal (thanks to Yossi Benayoun's 82nd minute goal), defeating Real in Estadio Santiago Bernabéu 2 weeks ago, begins their bombardment in Anfield from the very first minute of the game. Fernando Torres looked sharp all night long, forcing Iker Casillas to make saves after saves. Javier Mascherano pushes his luck with a dipping ball that was destined to score but Casillas took the ball out for a corner in the 5th minute. The dead lock was broken when Fernando Torres slips home the first goal of the night from a low pass from Dirk Kuyt in the 16th minute. (Agg 2-0)

Steven Gerrard added the 2nd goal of the night from the penalty spot in the 28th minute when the ball hits Gabriel Heinze in the penalty box. Replays showed the ball hit the former Manchester United man on the shoulder, and he was booked for making his point. (Agg 3-0) The game then plays to the midfield, and Real begans their attacks on Liverpool all the way until half time. The half time score was Liverpool 2 Real Madrid 0.

Second half begins with Liverpool hits Real right into their hearts when Ryan Babel got away on the left and laid the ball back for Gerrard to volley superbly high into the net with Casillas helpless in the 46th minute. (Agg 4-0) Gerrard's second goal of the night, Liverpool's third and everything seemed to be nothing but over for Real Madrid. Real played a slow tempo for the rest of the night, most of their shots were not threatening for Pepe Reina. To rub salt into Real's wound, with three minutes to go, Andrea Dossena appeared in the box to fire home the fourth goal of the night after a fine build-up involving Babel and Mascherano. (Agg 5-0)

Sorry for those who aren't a footie fan, but this rout is rarely seen especially playing against big teams like Real Madrid. A nightful of joy for the kop fans in Anfield while I was resting away silently into the night.
